Working together, we will discuss primary food, secondary food, and the important role each play in our daily lives.
Primary food, or non-food sources of energy, goes beyond the food on our plates, nurturing us on a deep level. The four main primary foods are Career, Relationships, Physical Activity, and Spirituality.
What activities or moments satisfy your mind, body, and soul?
As you choose secondary food, the food on your plate, keep the larger picture in mind; consider your relationships, spirituality, physical activity, and career. How are you managing stress? These can impact the food choices that you make each day. When it comes to secondary food, try to make half your plates fruits and vegetables and include nutritious protein options along with whole grains, healthy fats, and water in your daily diet. By getting “back to the basics," you will get a balance of nutrients by exploring strategies for adding new whole foods into your diet. Crowd out with nutritious foods!
